Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 - Small update

There's a small update for Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 available at:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/update/locale

This is a cab-file which you will download to your computer and then transfer to the memorycard in your phone. It doesn't seem that the update is available through update service.

According to Xperiancers there will be a bigger upgrade for the X2 at the end of March and another upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5.3 in May:

"In March, we’ll launch our first upgrade (MR1). It will upgrade Windows Mobile from 6.5.1 to 6.5.2 (which will improve both the stability and usability of the device), it will bring in the use of video telephony, an FM radio and it will introduce fast GPS to get a quicker fix. As well as all this, MR1 will upgrade a lot of the applications in the phone to improve speed, usability and fix any bugs we find.

The second update will go live in May and this will be a big one as it moves Windows mobile onto 6.5.3. This is a significant upgrade in terms of usability, performance, power management and the browser experience."

Satio - Update

Seems like we can expect a new update for Sony Ericsson Satio to be release within the next few weeks:

The software will also include new features such as:

  • Support for WVGA video recording – The already great video recording will be enhanced to fit the wide screen format and hence resolution is also slightly increased to 864 * 480 pixles. (the preset size will still be VGA, user has to change to get WVGA)
  • Upload of pictures to Facebook – It will be possible to upload pictures directly from the picture menu you have on the home screen or from the Media UI.
  • Youtube video uploading – It will be possible to upload videos to Youtube directly from the Media UI.
  • Conversational messaging – “Conversations” will be nicely integrated in the messaging menu in order to easily find and inspire to more conversations with your friends.
  • DLNA support – The new software will support DLNA media server for easy transfer of audio and still pictures. (Note that video is not supported)
  • UI improvements – On top of above, several minor UI improvements have been done in order to optimize the user experience.
  • The Facebook application that is now available on PlayNow for free download will be included in the sw.

PC Suite for Smartphones on Windows 7

Many people are experinecing problem with Windows 7 and Sony Ericsson PC Suite version 1.5.26 for Smartphones such as P1i, G900, G700, W960 etc.

I managed to get it work and heres a little how to:

The problem is that the folder symbian 9 drivers isn't installed correctly. What you need to do is:

    1. Download PC Suite from Sony Ericssons webpage:

    2. As you can see in the requirements it doesn't say Windows 7 like it does for PC Suite 6.009.00 for non-smartphones. Follow the instructions and make sure you close all other processes while installing and that you haven't connected the USB-cable.

    3. Install the latest PC Suite (1.5.26) in Compatibility Mode for Windows Vista and Run as administrator. Right click setup file and select properties -> compatibility mode.

    4. Restart your computer.

    5. Download and unzip the following:

6.Install the Setup.exe (File version: 4.40.2.1) in Compatibility Mode for Windows Vista and Run as administrator.

Do not connect the usb-cable until now.

    Backup your Sony Ericsson X1

Sony Ericsson X1 comes with no possible solution for backing up and restoring your data unless you synchronize it via Exchange Active Sync or a local synchronization to Microsoft Outlook.

Microsoft just released a new service (Myphone) together with the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 a.k.a Windows Phone, which allows you to backup your data including messages and photos via Exchange and free of charge.
